Procedure
a)
Submissions are invited for the PBS Pamphlet Choice category, made every quarter.
b) The publication date of all submissions must fall within the relevant
PBS quarter: Spring (January - March), Summer (April - June), Autumn (July - September),
or Winter (October - December).
c) Titles may be submitted in manuscript,
pageproof, typescript or fully finished form. Three copies of each submission
together with a completed submissions form must be received at the PBS office
on or before the date announced in the publicised timetables.
Eligibility
a) As long as they fulfil our submission and supply
criteria, poetry publications eligible for this scheme include (but are not limited
to) pamphlets, chapbooks, small press publications, community publications, illustrated
works, art books, non-traditional book formats. Please contact the PBS office
if you wish to discuss the definition of your particular publication.
b)
Single poems, single author collections, joint author publications, translations
and anthologies are all eligible.
c) This is the only PBS category to
which self-published work can be submitted.
d) There is no lower page
limit, but publications with more than 32 pages are not eligible.
e) There
are no upper or lower limits on publication price.
f) Regularly published
magazines or journals are not eligible.
g) Poems or translations must
be new work, and not have been published before.
h) Posthumous work is
eligible only if published within 6 months of the poet's death.
i) Submitted
work must be first published in the United Kingdom or Republic of Ireland. This
includes simultaneous publication (within 8 months) in other countries. Selection
a) Selections will be made by a panel of
two poets, appointed by the PBS.
b) The most notable pamphlet publication
every quarter will be awarded the 'Poetry Book Society Pamphlet Choice'.
c)
Selectors will serve for two years each.
Submission
a) To take into account pamphlet publishers'
lead times, Selections will be made after publication
b) Please
refer to the chart at the end of these guidelines for the submission timetable.
Supply a)
If production schedules allow, the publisher agrees to print the words Poetry
Book Society Pamphlet Choice on the cover of all editions.
b) The Pamphlet
Choice is featured in the relevant Bulletin with c200 words of comment written
by one of the Selectors.
c) Please contact the PBS to discuss trading
arrangements.
In submitting manuscripts for consideration by the PBS
Selectors, publishers agree to be bound by the above guidelines, compiled March
2003.
